Post by Aiden »

Is there any chance that someone could live from this? :(

Ouch.

Zain

well here's the thing, my cousin has it. I found out last night and almost just dropped dead to the floor. His oxygen levels yesterday were at 40% today they're up to 50% or so... my mom said there was no way to get rid of the disease.. but my cousin he's only like 20 years old.

i think its possible, though highly unlikely to live from it.

You say he is already 20 years old? I think he may be able to belt out another 15-20 if hes careful.

Wegener’s granulomatosis (WG) is a systemic vasculitis characterized by the predominant involvement of upper and lower respiratory tracts, which can be associated in most cases with
kidney failure. Pulmonary disease, including pleuritis, cough and haemoptysis, is the outstanding feature of WG and occurs in 45% at onset to 87% throughout the course of the disease. (Taken from a scientific journal). Another journal article I found cited a series of case studies that seem to show that WG is associated with the "inhalation of silicon-containing compounds such as silica and grain dust." Another article I found says it's more common in males than females (3:2), it's also seen anywhere between 3 months to 75 years. Average rate of survival is 5 months, 82% of patients die within a year, and greater than 90% die within 2 years. It's always possible, but it seems to be a very very slim chance. Sorry to hear about this.

50% SpO2? Damn.

If it is kidney related, being on oxygen and dialysis may help, but I doubt it'll do much. I'm sorry.

Well thank you to everyone..and I do hate bringing such to AA but there are some damn smart people on here so I just wanted to know if he could recover some and make it back to functioning mode.

Tailtiu, it's not his kidney's.. it's his lungs.

He was on steroids because the doctors said it would help him, but from my understanding it just made him worse and now he's in a coma sort of state... but that's because they put him there. I can't remember the term my mother told me.. ><

Well..we're... uh... we were close back when we were little, but then he got old and and i got old...and now i only see them at family get-togethers. See my uncle is rich... so they have better things to do than bother with family...but my cousin, mitchell, he was kinda different, not snobbish or snooty..just quiet.

(Gotta love that fancy book learnin'). Medical science isn't my field, but would the term be "comatose?" I've read in Klein's The Shock Doctrine that doctors can induce anyone into a coma by manipulating their glucose levels.
