Looking for something genuinely good

Post by Thedoctorr »

I joined this forum just to ask this question because I can not find an existing one with what I'm after.

I love Evangelion to bits. I like the new stuff especialy the fleshed out character development
I like the old stuff, especialy the haunting feeling from the seemingly ghost like Tokyo-3 which is probably more an accident due to low budget at the time but never the less works damn well.

I love Cowboy Bebop for the blues tones and melencholy feel given by the character and the brilliant music.

I love Samurai Champloo again the music is a big reason and the fact that the characters feel REAL. They are developed and also broken individuals.

Ghost in the shell is a huge standout for me. This time again the music is perfect and the tone of the show is something very apart from other animes. Its also very clever and doesnt feel the need to skip over its dialogue and set up for any obligitory action.

I loved Death Note because, hey, it was death note. Just a really damn entertaining story, even if it did drag a little by the end and get a little clumsy. They could have wrapped the series up a little earlier imo but thats neither here nor there.

Full Metal Alchemist was light and had good humour but managed to keep that deeper feeling that I love. When a Hughes died, I was genuinely upset. The Brotherhood version was great but again bit cluttered by the end with waaaay too many characters to follow at once. But love it all the same

DIdnt mind Last Exile and Elfen Lied. Loved Paprika. Loved Myazaki's stuff
I enjoyed Full Metal Panic, no where near as much as the above, but its schitzorphrenic seires was entertaining. Black Lagoon was meh, nothing really there.
Did Not Like:
Hellsing: nothing there
Appleseed: Meh
Vampire Hunter D: Meh
Gundam bored me
Love hina stuff or anything like it bore me
Samurai X bleh
Afro samurai BLEH

I've tried a lot of stuff at random lately and been mostly let down :(
Now the reason I've put a bried explanation after what I liked and didn't like is because I really want to find something that I'm gonna be blown away by because that hasn't happened in a while. I've tried searching for peoples "top anime" lists to find quality and get disheartened by the amout of naruto, DBZ, and other crap on these lists.

So are there any diamonds in the rough that I've missed?
