Rah-Xephon

Post by Jovenitto »

I'm seeing this show now.

It is really strange...

Some might say it is just more of Evangelion, i don't think so. The overall theme is the same (giant robots piloted by kids), but it is so different that no comparison can be made (at least not yet, i've only seen 8 eps out of the total 26).

Expect my review as soon as I finish the show...

Rahxephon is in my top 20. It shares a number of similarities with Eva but can also stand on its own.

Similarities: Young boy/older female protector, giant bio-robots, odd parental relationship, living in a house full of females, fantastic science facility designed to defend the earth

Despite that, it manages to be very different. To say much more would give it away. I also think ADV did an excellent job on the English Dub. Anime on DVD.com even recommends seeing it in English. The sound track is awesome.

Yea!!! A review. I look forward to it.
Stand back! This old Otaku has PMS, a broadsword, a double bladed battle ax, a flail, dagger in her teeth and a pistol in her belt.

One other similarity that i've realized:

There is a guy (in RahXephon) that shows up like a tourist (can't remember his name now), using a hat, jacket over his shoulder, 3-day old beard, yapping all over the place, taking pictures, but he knows everyone important (like commander Jin Kurugi) and seems to know more than he gives away... :-k

In Evangelion, the equivalent character is Kaji: 3-day old beard, scruffy hair in a pony-tail, the knot on his tie is always open, jacket over his shoulder, just like a tourist... but he's moving behind the stage, doing something... :-k

As you said, and for what i've seen, RahXephon can stand on his own. 8)

I like the soundtrack too. It is very good. =D>

I have the option of viewing the eps in Japanese or English, since I have the two audio tracks to choose from. I've seen a little of the 1st ep in Eng, it is good dub indeed, but to me it doesn't feel right. It's strange, but i only like them in Jap. :-s
There is something in the Japanese language (a characteristic sound, a pitch...) that no other language can reproduce. So, to me, non-Jap is just weird, and i find myself not liking any other language... :-s
it seems like they are missing something... oh, well... it may be nitpicking, but it's what i think... or better: not what i think, what i feel.

As for the review, it will be a couple of weeks until I finish all the eps. But i'll definitely write one. :D
