Finnian's life before he became Ciel Phantomhive's gardener was not a happy one. Locked away in a secret laboratory, Finnian was subjected to inhuman experiments to enhance his strength – experiments that succeeded when he broke away from his tormentors and ran away – only to run into Sebastian. The demon butler then offered a position at the Phantomhive manor, which included generous pay and future bonuses. But the only thing Finnian wanted was to be out-of-doors and not locked away in some dark, dreary cell, where the only company he had was the occasional bird that perched in the small window.

Normally cheerful and having a radiant smile, Finnian, or Finny as the others call him, dutifully works keeping up the landscaping at the Phantomhive manor. Unfortunately, Finnian seems to have a 'brown thumb', as his efforts often end up with dead plants. And he has to be careful when handling things, as he is known to accidentally crush objects - or animals - because of his great strength (one bird in particular). Still, Finnian takes his work with stride, only grateful that he can breathe the outdoor air.
