After a coldly rational Japanese salaryman is killed and reincarnated by a vengeful entity he mockingly dubs "Being X," he is reborn as Tanya Degurechaff, a small orphan girl in a war-torn empire resembling early-20th-century Europe.
Armed with aerial combat magic and a ruthless, calculating mind, Tanya climbs through the imperial army determined to win herself a safe, comfortable life far from the front, only to keep being hurled into the bloodiest battles of a widening war. The 2017 TV series and its 2019 feature film are followed by a long-awaited second season premiering in July 2026.
