Description: The WINGS of REAN
To some, this anime series might seem a bit confusing. Sadly, I was one of those people. But I'll try to lay it out as best I can. First off, this series takes place in the future. Japan is working together with the USA and China, though I'm not sure exactly what for... something to do with weapons I think. Anyway, a group of teenage kids are a bit peeved by this, and decide kick up a bit of trouble. Unfortunately, one of these kids, Asap Suzuki, takes things a bit too far when he actually fires a rocket!
Now wanted by the US military, Asap, who we learn is the son of a big-wig Japanese military officer, flees for his freedom... and winds up in the ocean as the waters suddenly and drastically rise. A giant light then causes one of the giant battleships to begin floating in midair. Asap was able to grab hold before it left the water, but now he finds himself on a flying battleship, and face to face with a beautiful girl who says she is the princess of a world called Byston Well.
The girl's name is Lyukus, and her boots have little wings that can pop out, allowing her to fly. She then says "My father is Japanese, Shinjiro Sakomizu. Please help me, Asap Suzuki", to which Asap replies "I'm the Magical Man from Happy-Land, in a gumdrop house on Lollipop Lane!"... okay, so that last quote came from The Simpons, but her quote is legit. Somehow this alien girl knows his name. Talk about weird. So then, US military aircraft start attacking the spaceship... oh yeah, did I mention the spaceship? Well, there's a spaceship. Or multiple spaceships. And then a portal appears which sucks everyone in, including the battleship and aircraft, taking them to new an alien world, where ships look like bugs. Now everyone is confused, including the audience.
So now that Asap and Lyukus are on Byston Well, they are joined by a fairy named Ferario, and everyone is ticked off that Lyukus took her boots to Earth. What? They want her to go barefoot? The boots, as I'm sure you can guess, are the Wings of Rean, and they are supposed to be used to control a kingdom or something. I don't know, I really didn't get this part (like I got the rest of it?), but at any rate, the boots are special somehow, and not just in the fact that they can make the wearer fly. Oh, and you know how Asap was kind of rebelling against his military dad? Well, Lyukus is rebelling against her father, who is the king, because he became a bad guy or something. I'm not too sure about that either.
DVD Releases
Each DVD includes an little booklet insert which provides some insight into the series, which is actually a very nice touch. Usually I don't give a crap out inserts, but these are worth checking out.
