Has Gaming Truly Defeated Hollywood In The Entertainment Industry? Posted May 8, 2020
Every generation has seen its mode of entertainment. Not that there is supposed to be only one, but only one can be number one. Talking about today, we have more options to entertain us than we will probably ever need. However, it doesn't mean all these options are equally popular. Different people have different tastes, but if we talk about the majority, the gaming industry emerges as the real conqueror. Sure, Hollywood gives it a tough fight, but the craze that people nourish inside themselves for their favorite games overpowers the popularity of films.
In a recent research piece by Betway, it was shown that mainstream celebrities like Keanu Reeves (The Matrix, John Wick), Mark Hamill (Star Wars Franchise), Kevin Spacey, and Willem Defoe (Original Spiderman Trilogy) have switched to working in games for specific times. And their work has been highly appreciated. The sole reason for them working in games is not because they got bored with the movies. It's because they wanted to build their fanbase in the Gamer Community as well.
Speaking of The Gamer Community, no, it's not some online social media club for people who play Mario Kart. The Gamer Community comprises all the people who choose either console or a PC for playing games of their choice. You can be in any part of the world. But if you play a game, you're automatically a part of The Community.
The Gaming Community is so huge because of the versatility of the video games in the market these days. Games like God of War and Assassin's Creed make you feel like you're an assassin in ancient Spain or a warlord in Greek or Norse mythology. You can be from any part of the world, but when you're playing it, you're either Kratos or Ezio Auditore Da Firenze. The same goes for games like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor. Some people always have a sense of patriotism. They've always wanted to be in the army and save their nation from threats. These are games that let you fulfill your dreams of doing all that by sitting on your couch. So it's safe to say that not all video games are "just games."
If we look to the root cause of the declining fashionableness of Hollywood, we won't be surprised. An average movie produced and directed in Hollywood is 120 minutes long at most. The excitement within the fans starts when the film is about to be released and usually ends right after they have finally watched it. If the movie were extraordinary (which is a rare phenomenon), it would be remembered for ages. Games have an advantage over films in this aspect. A game can have multiple matches, resulting in varying endings, unlike cinema. So, the gamers get to live the enthusiasm for a more extended period than Hollywood fans do.
Now that you know why the gaming industry has established its much-deserved prominence, be prepared to see it grow furthermore. The technology is very much inclined towards making gaming more of a life experience than it already is. Here enters VR, the Virtual Reality that the industry has promised the gamers. The gadgets are expected to be on the pricey side, but it is going to be worth it for the people who would like to play as their favorite game character in the game, for real. It is a stimulation based entertainment and is much anticipated by the gaming community.
