Discover Anime @ AbsoluteAnime.comMemoriesBlue Exorcist, known in Japan as Ao no Exorcist, follows Rin Okumura, a brash and good-hearted teenager who has spent his whole life getting into fights and struggling to find where he belongs. He lives at a church monastery under the care of the priest who raised him, alongside his calm, studious twin brother Yukio Okumura. Rin's world is upended when he learns a shattering secret: he is the biological son of Satan, the most powerful demon in the underworld of Gehenna, and the blue flames he can suddenly summon are the unmistakable mark of his father.
When that revelation costs him the only parent he has ever known, Rin makes a defiant vow. Rather than embrace his demonic birthright, he will become an exorcist powerful enough to defeat Satan himself. To do that he enrolls at the prestigious True Cross Academy, which hides a secret cram school where a new generation of exorcists is trained to protect humanity from the demons that slip into our world.
There Rin gets another shock: his mild-mannered twin Yukio is already a fully qualified exorcist and instructor, and is now responsible for teaching his reckless brother. Armed with the demon-slaying blade Kurikara, a cursed sword that seals away his powers until he draws it, Rin must learn to control his blue flames without letting them consume him, all while hiding his parentage from classmates who have every reason to fear what he is.
Alongside fellow students like the gentle Shiemi Moriyama and the fiercely competitive Ryuji "Bon" Suguro, Rin trains, fights, and slowly earns a place among people who might one day accept him for who he is rather than what he was born from. At its heart, the series is a story about brotherhood, identity, and choosing your own path in defiance of your blood.
Based on the manga by Kazue Kato, serialized in Jump Square since 2009, the anime was produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Tensai Okamura, first airing in 2011. The franchise has since grown with a 2012 feature film and later seasons, including the Kyoto Saga (2017) and the Shimane Illuminati and Blue Night arcs (2024–2025), making it one of the more enduring supernatural action series of its era.
