Character Description: Shadow
Shadow seems a hollow figure, about as cold and morbid as the graves which she watches over. When she was human, she thought her face was without rival, so when she became a machine, she chose no face at all.
Yet, Shadow seems divided between her beautiful human body or her timeless machine body. Her human body lies in a dome near the graves, so she may look upon it whenever she wishes. However, having the body so easily seen is perhaps what keeps Shadow so divided. She tries to detain Tetsuro, but Maetel intervenes, reminding Shadow about what she gave up to acquire the machine body. But as Tetsuro and Maetel leave Pluto, Maetel comments: "The human bodies are kept here so that those who tire of their machine bodies may return to them. Whether or not this is a kindness to those persons who have forsaken their own humanity or an unspeakable cruelness has yet to be decided."
Shadow depicts that conflict.
