Description: Dorohedoro
Discover Anime @ AbsoluteAnime.comAstro Boy (2009 Movie)Dorohedoro drops you into one of the strangest, grimiest, most lovable worlds in modern anime: the Hole, a city of perpetual rain and chain-link fences where sorcerers from another dimension hop in through "doors" to use the citizens as practice subjects for their magic. Most victims die. Some survive with their heads reshaped into reptiles, mushrooms, or worse. One of those survivors is Caiman, a tall man with a lizard's head, no memory of his original face, and a deep grudge against every sorcerer he meets.
Caiman bites sorcerers in the head. Inside his mouth lives another man's face, and if that man's face says "you're not the one," Caiman tears the sorcerer's body apart and moves on, hunting for whoever did this to him. He is joined in his quest by Nikaido, his best friend and the proprietor of a gyoza restaurant called Hungry Bug, whose own staggering magical power she would prefer nobody find out about. Together they eat dumplings, kill sorcerers, and try to figure out who Caiman used to be.
On the other side of the Door, the sorcerer world is its own organized-crime ecosystem. The smooth, mushroom-themed crime boss En runs a family of magic-users that includes the Cleaner duo Shin and Noi, the lecherous and oddly endearing Fujita, and the perpetually drunk and barely-sentient Ebisu. As the body count climbs, En's family and Caiman's investigation collide in increasingly chaotic ways - one storyline plays as splatter horror while the next is a sweet office-comedy moment about choosing wallpaper.
What sets Dorohedoro apart is the way Q Hayashida's manga balances absolute brutality with absurd warmth. People are decapitated, resurrected, betrayed, and then sit down to share a meal. Studio MAPPA's adaptation captures this dual register with a queasy CGI-and-hand-drawn hybrid look that critics initially questioned but the fanbase came to love, all set to a roiling jazz-rock soundtrack by (K)NoW_NAME. The first season aired on Netflix in 2020 and earned a passionate global following.
After a six-year wait, Dorohedoro Season 2 entered production at MAPPA and began airing in 2026, picking up directly from the cliffhanger left by the first season. Adapted from Q Hayashida's manga (serialized from 2000 to 2018 and collected in 23 volumes), the show is a singular blend of cosmic horror, body-horror identity drama, and surprisingly tender slice-of-life comedy. If you can stomach the blood, you'll find one of the warmest found-family stories anime has produced in years.
