Ok, I have been replaying FFVIII here lately and heard of these "Rinoa is Ultimecia" theorys. I hope someone remembers the game well enough to help me with this.. Here we go.
Ok, there are several clues to this, one is Ellone and the Ellone Machine, They have the power to send people back in time into the consiousness of someone they've met. Here's the clue: Rinoa meets Edea (Through most of the game Edea is possessed by Ultimecia.) Rinoa knows herself, of course. (Rinoa is the second sorceress to be possessed.) Adel...I think adel was just crazy and not really possessed. Another clue: Their faces, if you look at CG screenshots, Ultimecia looks kinda like a Rinoa in her mid-thirties. Another clue is: Wings, Rinoa has angel wings, not hard to believe tht she got bitter and went crazy and they turned black. (Ultimecia has black wings.) And here's what kinda got me thinking: Griever, Zell asks for Squall's ring and Rinoa ends up with it, on the invasion on Galbadia Garden, Rinoa gives it back and asks if the "monster" on it has a name, you then get to name "the strongest GF", in the final battle Ultimecia summons a GF...named Griever. Scanning Griever shows that he was created from Squall's imagination as the strongest GF. (Basically in Squalls mind, he was the ultimate GF.)
A theory of my own:
Why Rinoa went crazy: Think about the game, Edea and Adel do pretty ruthless things to invoke fear, it isn't hard to believe that many people woul be prejudice of Sorceresses (Hatred would take its toll on her alone.) Squall said he'd "Be her knight." So, what if somehow an army was organized against Rinoa, Squall fought for her and was left dying, she went evil and survived, and here's where my imaginaion wandered...
Creation of Griever: He was created in Squall's mind, but think about Squall, I don't think someone like him woul fantasize about the strongest GF. Also, I don't remember Ultimecia trying to read Squall's mind, so, as Squall laid dying what if Rinoa used her sorcery to turn him to the most powerful beast he could think of? ...Griever. (One thing I forgot: The music playing as you fight Griever, I think was called 'Maybe I'm a Lion')
Ok, maybe he died another way, but still, ever think that Rinoa = Ultimecia and Squall = Griever?
