Well i don't know if this would be considered a spoiler but we'll just make it one. I believe that since inuyasha was pinned to the tree after trying to steale the jewel shard for him self that it will have been purified like kikyo suggested. You see, If you remember, Inuyasha asked Kikyo what she would do with the jewel. She simply stated that she would have wish it to be purified so that it could cause no harm, wouldn't give special abilities or cast a wishes. So it would end up being a simple jewel. And since Inuyasha still has feelings for kikyo, as a friend he would honor her request for the jewel to be purified. So i think that when they collect all of the remaining shards that inuyasha will wish it to be purified out of respect for kikyo.
I felt like a race horse in a world without racetracks or a champion college footballer suddenly confronted by Wall Street and a business suit, his days of glory shrunk to a little gold cup on his mantel with a date engraved on it like a tombstone.
