re: why.....?
To be honest, I have been wondering the same thing. I've never seen Inuyasha, but its everywhere, and its premise/story didn't really interest me.

I would like to think it's because they like Rumiko Takahashi's work, but that can't be it as many of them still don't know her earilier works like Urusei Yatsura.

Well, the art work is beautiful. That is what drew me in at first. But the characters do kind of grow on you. I like it. But always found it interesting that it was in Adult Swim and Rurouni Kenshin ran before 11PM. Same for Case Closed. Never understood why it was in Adult Swim..... and that one I didn't care for.
Given the subject matter, I do wonder if I would have explored Inuyasha had it not been on Adult Swim.
When I saw the post I was ready to move it to the Inuyasha forum but agree that it is a fairly serious discussion and not just a lot of going on about how cute some character is.

I believe it is popular because it is the first anime of its kind to be in the mainstream. Just like Sailor Moon, and Robotech brought anime out into the open, InuYasha shows that cartoons aren't only for children.
Up until InuYasha was aired on US TV, Cartoon Network, almost all cartoons were directed towards children. InuYasha brought the teens, and adults to Cartoon Network.
That is just my take on it.

I would say that I like it because I jsut wnat to see it thourhg to the end at this point, the first few episodes (Like the first 20 or so) were truly excelent, however it seems to have been drawn out for a long time ... It seems to have become repetitive and degraded in quality somewhat, however It's still a good show, and in its peak it was definately better targeted twards teens which was a big part of its sucess.(As previously stated)
I think it was put on adult swim because of the gore content, language, and some of the more graphic violence.
I would honestly enjoy seeing some of the original 20-30 episodes again, I really liked the first thunder brothers episodes and the Yura of the Demon Hair episodes.

I simply love it because It's a show that I don't have to go to the store and pay for. I simply just watch it on saturdays.

Another thing I have noticed about InuYasha, everytime I have watched it, time seems to accelerate. Even when the episodes aren't interesting, that half hour feels like it went by in 5 minutes, leaving me wondering what happens to time when someone watches InuYasha?

yeah inuyasha is ok....I live in Canada and its like the only anime on t.v. to watch.
It was probably what started getting into anime but I find it dragging on and getting a little boring lately...but still a pretty good series

I can't say that I exactly like Inuyasha, but its not entirely horrible. I only watched up to the end of the first season just to see what all the fuss was about, but ya know... What probably happened was that the promos and/or early episodes of the manga in Japan caught the public's attention and became popular, thus leading to added pressure on poor Rumiko Takahashi (did I spell that right?). Anyway, some rather nasty yawnful filler episodes came along after the beginning and that is where I lost interest. It's also kind of generic, too. I don't know if it copied other anime/mangas or if they copied it, but they all kind of seem the same now. As for me, I like the unusual ones (right now, it's Serial Experiments: Lain, and previously Witch Hunter Robin). But other than all of this, Inuyasha's pretty okay. After all, I watch some crap that makes it look like the best thing ever!
