re: How can I donate money to AA?
Hello,
I love to answer these types of questions for Ken. I am the guy who hosts the site and manages the server that it's one.
There are a couple things that can always be done to help the site. I'd like to draw a clear picture about the technologies behind the site in terms. Currently the site lives on a single 3.2ghz HT server with 2gb of ram. This is a pretty good box unless you are trying to host an anime site that has a high load. Speaking of load, AA uses about 2mbit per second bandwidth during most of the day. This equates to 21.5gb day or 650gb per month of bandwidth.
Both of these items are pricy. I have been working on a plan to try to get a clustered environment working for the site. This hasn't worked real well as the forums get jacked up. I have been thinking about trying to setup a dedicated server just to the forums (like forums.absoluteanime.com) and see if that works any better. I haven't ran this by Ken yet.
Anyways, things that the site always will need, if it continues to grow is bandwidth and hardware. We have 100mbit of bandwidth available at our Colo facillity but it's a cost factor. But we will never even use the bandwidth because the hardware seems to be limiting the requests.
One of the things ideas that I have tossed up is working with Ken to sell AA email accounts for something like $12/year to generate some revenue.
But we are always looking for ideas.
So, here is how I would envision the donation money going...
1) Hardware + Pizza
2) Bandwidth
3) Raiders game tickets
4) Whatever else Ken needs to support the site.
Please note that this is only from a technologies perspective.

Could always set up a paypal account. Heard good things about it.
In an uncaring universe it is up to us to determine our own destinies.

Ken, I'm using my account. You happy now. Anyways we will be putting the new forum server into production next week. I have been testing some of the newer rack mount servers this week.webmaster wrote:Geez, are you ever going to register? Or do you like hanging around as the mysterious, ominous "Guest"?
Moving the forums to a dedicated server sounds like a good idea to me, as does the idea about selling e-mail accounts, though I think adding a small personal website into the deal might make it more attractive. Of course, I don't know how hard it'd be to implement, or how much it'd cost.
As for the donations, I will setup a paypal alias account for PXT (the hosting company) with the email alias absoluteanimefund@primeexalia.com. This will make it easy to segregate the funds.
For those who want to donate I have no problem setting up large capacity email accounts (pop3, imap, web mail) as well as some additional web space.
We will create as sub domain users.absoluteanime.com so peoples email will be username@users.absoluteanime.com and their web space would be users.absoluteanime.com/username.
We could always use money for bandwidth as well as the project servers.
AbsoluteAnime is a site that will put the bandwidth and hardware limit. The more hardware you throw at it the more bandwidth it take. The more bandwidth you take the more hardware you need. It's the vicous circle...

Donations should be restricted to people who are 18 and over, or those with parental consent. Having everyone's best interests in mind here.
