Zengar Zonbolt wrote:Wow, I remember this thread from a while back. It appears we have a necromancer in our midst Anyways, on retrospect, most of the prototype Gundam units past UC 0093 can most likely smoke an Eva. And from the Alternate universes, I know that the Gundam X (and its variants) along with the Turn A and the Turn Xs would be able to trash an Eva fairly easily.

And Juno, I have seen every Gundam anime to date (save for IGLOO and Victory), and I'm not an Eva fan, I absolutely hate the show. I was just trying to observe the comparisons between the two mechs objectively. One of the things that drove me to my original conclusion is the comparison of the Evangelion units with Gundam units in the Playstation 2 Game Super Robot Wars Alpha. Between the two, I found that none of the mobile suit's beam pistols, rifles, and machineguns would even damage the Eva, save for the Dendrobium's Heavy Beam Gun. However, this comparison only included mobile suits from 0083 up to 0093, and I can say that judging from the status ratings, I'd say that the 0093+ Units would be able to defeat Evas (Though none of the Nu and the Mass Production Nu Gundam's regular weapons would work, their Funnel attacks could do significant damage upon Evas, so considering the technological advances between 0093 and 0123, I'd imagine that Mecha from 0093+ would be able to do significant damage upon Evas.
Why do you hate Evangelion?

You probably won't like it, its too time consuming, as you have to memorize the japanese characters for every command, item, attack and seishin (Stat boosting items). It took me a month of memorizing to get everything down pat. And you can't actually pit the characters head to head, I just compared their statistics head to head.

@Hawke123:

I hated Evangelion because it lacked the essentials of what I consider to constitute a good anime. My requirements are to have
1. Likeable Characters
2. Exciting and/or well choreographed mecha scenes
3. A fitting and satisfying conclusion
4. A decent plotline
5. Fun
Unfortunately, in my opinion, Evangelion lacks all of these factors. Though the plot is quite intriguing, I hated it. I'm not much into the whole mindf*ck thing. I acknowledge that Evangelion did pioneer quite a few things that had remained low key until Eva's arrival, and I respect Evangelion for what it has done, but that does not change the fact that I hate Evangelion.

My friend you have High standards.. Some what too high but they do make sence. I like evangelion because of the complex storyline, if your not paying attention all the way through it will fly over your head..I love it when anime is complex and smart. But your right it sometimes lacks humor. Still its one of Japans top 10... after soooooooo many years. =D>

What did you dislike about the characters? How was this series not fun? I don't see anything wrong with the mecha scenes. :|

I'll make it concise and straight to the point  :

I dislike Eva because of its characters, its ending, and its Freudian tone. I was brought up on mecha characters like Kouji Kabuto or Kenichi Gou, hot blooded and self righteous pilots. Sure they are stereotypical, but I love them anyways. Shinji on the other hand... I hate emo kids, I cannot stand having a bitchy whiny kid as a lead pilot. (I MUSN'T RUN AWAY!!!!!) Asuka just pissed me off with her bitchyness, and Rei was just devoid of... well, everything. I want my characters to have some form of emotion.
I don't really need to give any reasons why I hate the ending, since it speaks for itself, both the regular ending (eps 25-26) and End of Evangelion.

No other anime ending has left me feeling so angry, dissatisfied and pessimistic (Ala Sigmund Freud).

As for the Mecha action, I found the action not all that well choreographed compared to other contemporary mecha series, both Super Type, and Real Type. To me they were largely forgettable, compared to... Oh say Zeta Gundam's Assault on Kilamanjaru Sequence, or the Dendoh's first encounter with the Ouga. I did have a difficult time deciding whether EVA would be considered Real or Super though, that was a nice little time waster.

But that's just my personal opinion on this series, don't let it affect your views on Eva.

I agree that Shinji's personality is anything but great and Rei...um...she is creepy and needs to show some emotion becuz she is a boring character.

Well, one advantage Gigantor- Forgive me, I just cannot call it by that name. One advantage Tetsujin 28 has is that it is the grandaddy of all mecha anime. It is the first mecha anime to have been created, back in the '60s. I can't say that it is better than Gundam, because with my knowledge of this anime, I can't, but I am dying to watch this anime. I would have bought the 2002 boxset, but I was turned off by the lack of a Japanese track. I AM however, excited by Geneon's planned new Tetsujin releases which DO include a Jpn Sub.
