Im a little confused about the third impact, I understand to achieve the wanted third imapct you need lilith or a replacement for lilith, when an angel combines with lilith it starts the third impact from EoE, but if so, when unit 01 acquired the s2 engine, he became a liable substitue for lilith, but why did nerv now want univt 1 to merge with the 15th angel, wouldnt it achieve the desired result? or do you have to have defeated the angels first? And what about adam, if an angel merged with adam would that start some kind of destructive 3rd impact that would wipe out humanity ?

IM sorry fi this is really long, and rambling, but could someone please help clear up some of this stuff for me, any input would be most appreciated, thanks in advance

Well first off it was SEELE that sent Kaoru. Ikari has always had his own plan for Third Impact. The entire time he was wanting to be reuninted with Yui. That is why Adam was absorbed into his hand and that's why Rei is around. He wanted to loose the Spear of Longinus so they would have to use Unit 1 as a substitute and Yui's soul is in Unit 1. In this way they could be together again.

Well If an angel came incontact with adam not lilith, it will become the cause of the third impact.We are lead to beleive that lilith is adam until kaworu states that it is lilith.
This was probably already stated though sorry.

well Angel+adam=third impact but it was caused by the eva series and unit 01 you see all 9 eva series lifted unit 01 up high in the sky and then i dont know next but then unit 01 and shinji saw lillith-Rei and Lillith-kaworu then i dont know next then unit 01 was wrapped in some red merging slime and that caused the third impact evangelion+angel=third impact aswell
