There are ways. The card is sometimes coated to make it thicker than it is. The font may not be right. The art may have a white background. Your friend is right about the silver sticker, but on limited and first editions it is gold.

(Back on a PC)
Also, fake cards don't have the logos on the back (Except the god cards)

You can tell when a card is obviously fake, like when the foil can peel off to be a sticker, and when the english cards use the words "Devil" or "Death".

Yeah it's by the sliver part on the card; the 1st edition ones are gold.

I would like to state for the record that Exodia comes in 5 cards, not one.

Definitely. Konami and UDE are too big companies to allow typo's.

I don't suppose you could scan a card and show us so we can tell you?

Posting using a Wii too.

Fake cards often have a more glossy finish to them, foil cards may be just normal cards or have the foil all over the card instead.

Only real exception is parallel rares which are glossier, thicker and are foil all over but they have specific card numbers.
