To be honest I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't any topics on this god of manga.

He was behind such things as Apollo's song, Astro Boy and Kimba the White Lion. He's insanely talented and is basically the Japanese equivalent of Walt Disney, and it is in my opinion that you do not know what manga is until you've read something behind him. The way he crafts his stories is insane, simple yet complex almost like reading an actual book, his themes brings up numerous moral and social issues we still deal with today despite the fact that he's been dead for almost two decades.

Well, Tezuka is one of the most popular mangaka of all time, he revolutionized manga and influenced most of today's mangaka as well.

I for one have most of the Astro Boy manga, plus I watched the anime, and the recent remake of the anime.

Without Tezuka there would be no Miyazaki, Tezuka took a hobby and made it a full time job, until him making manga wasn't something you could profit off of and he was responsible pretty single handedly for the golden age of manga which brought it to the mainstream in both Japan and America. He's so bad ass (and yes I used a space for dramatic effect and verbal savoring) that his last words were (and this is according to the legend) let me work.

Plus I wouldn't consider him comparable to Miyazaki because Miyazaki deals primarily in Anime movies, which if you know enough of Tezuka seemed to be continue on a lot of themes expressed in Tezuka's works.

They're both geniuses and we're lucky to have had them both, the only way to compare them would be who's done more for their generation, but they both did a lot, Tezuka has over 450 works I think, and Miyazaki is up there too, they both carry both deep and simplistic messages.

I love Miyazaki too though! He's like. . .the second God of anime.

I'm not saying this without reason-he was an anti-semetic activist (I'm not Jewish but this just isn't right) and he wanted all the Jews to die. That's not right because everyone has a right to live. Tezuka was nothing like that!

Well when we refer to him as the Walt Disney of Japan, we mean in their importance and contribution to the world of animation.


I wouldn't consider Miyazaki a God for one reason and one reason only, its perhaps my only gripe against him. He hasn't done anything to bring Anime to the mainstream like Tezuka has, his movies are waaay to Americanized, Tezuka was able to create series that would go over well in America while retaining a Japanese flavor to it. He was able to take anime and manga, and bring it into the mainstream.

Something that Miyazaki hasn't really done so far, but he's still insanely talented.

He is insanely talented! I think Mononoke Hime had a Japanese flavor to it. Same with Spirited Away. But Tezuka is definitely and always will be the God of Manga!

Yea. It seems like he's the "next generation" Like, Tezuka was first, now Miyazaki. But who's next? I really can't imagine anyone being as amazing as Tezuka.
btw, has anyone read his story Phoneix? I heard it's a classic

Most recently I read Apollo's song. It was worth its every penny, but we never know who, when, and where the next will come from.

Also worth mentioning is Akira Toriyama or whatever, the creator of DBZ, he's also behind a bunch of other series, not as popular as DBZ, but he is a monster as well.

Yea he is! He's so creative! I mean, if you can be so creative that you can hardly follow the series because of all the info it means you have achieved god like levels. XD
