That might make AA more interesting to new users, and still keep the interest of the current few we have here regularly.
There isn't much you can discuss on AA anymore, because most of it is already discussed, and most new threads are considered "spam" for that reason.

What I think we need to do is move the threads from before 2009 here so they still exist, but the topics are open once again for discussion.

Let me know how you feel about this.

I have to disagree, as I don't consider new threads spam simply because they are similar to previous threads. Are they being flagged as spam?

Hm. I don't mean it's flagged or anything.. But in most parts of this forum nothing new can be discussed because people have already talked about it before, and there are constant repeat threads in some of the anime subforums.

I'm probably wrong. Hm.

Calling the threads "spam" perse isnt exactly right but there are a lot of repeat threads, as well as things have already been discussd, with previous users. Cleaning out the subforums and such would allow for new discussions to be made, even if they are old discussions, they'll be new with the new people talking in them...

My thinking was:
Doing that would keep the attention of new AA users.
The old threads "memories" would be preserved, and the old users could also participate in the new topics if they wanted >_>

Yeah, However there also is something i think we've neglected to remember/realize; Older users that have already participated in a certain discussion topic will/have/might reference the old thread that the discussion was on/in thus defeating the whole purpose of this idea in the first place..

It wouldn't matter anyways, since that thread would be in the graveyard, so the topic might not shift too much.

Without users it won't make much of a difference. The problem isn't a lack of discussion so much as it's a lack of traffic.

Creative way to attack the problem. I suggest we try to offer more good solutions like this one.

Well. Yes, that is a problem.. but we do get a few new users daily.. or weekly.
None of them find a reason to stay around.

Again, this might make AA more attractive to newer users.

Well, the way i see it, we're wasting time either way. Either we think about it wasting time, or we do something..

No offense, but, I don't think Ken will be helping much. He seems rather busy with other things.

The mods could do this job, but for something this big I'd want to have Kens approval. >_>

Yes, having Ken backing the mods on this is a great idea. Hmm.. Maybe we should have a mod covference?
LOL as if we have that many active mods on anyways.. I count.. 4 on regularly.


I'm still going through all the pros and cons of this idea, I'll be sure to post my final thoughts when i get there, for now though, maybe we can try brainstorming some other ideas?

Discussions are never a waste of time. Whether we do it or not, I don't think it will have any significant impact on traffic. Users are already free to create new threads even if they are similar to other threads. A moderator might reference the other thread, but the new thread could wind up going somewhere completely different than the other one.

The other issue I think would be categorization. If we move all old threads to one archive forum, then they are no longer categorized, which would make it more difficult for those who just want to browse a specific forum as they wouldn't get to see all the archived threads that once belonged in that forum.
