Character Description: Rudolph Hess
Rudolph Hess was an official of the fledgling Nazi party in Germany. In November of 1923, he worked alongside Karl Houshofer's Thule Society in an attempt to bring-down the Weimar Republic – by using alchemic means to find the mythical utopia world of Shamballa – which was in actuality Edward Elric's home land of Amestris. However, he, along with other Nazi members, were arrested when the planned uprising in Munich was thwarted and was jailed.
A historical note – the real-life Rudolph Hess became the third-most powerful Nazi official in Germany during the Nazis' rise to power in the mid 1930's. However, when World War II broke out, he was arrested in Scotland on May 12, 1941 when he made an abortive attempt at a separate peace with Great Britain when the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union. After the war, he, along with other captured Nazi officials, was tried in Nuremberg and was sentenced to life. On August 17, 1987, he committed suicide, the last Nazi prisoner in West Berlin's Spandau Prison.
