Character Profile: Hone-Onna

The creature known as Hone-Onna was originally a geisha named Tsuyu, who had fell in love with a man who later betrayed her by selling her to a brother so that he could pay his debts. While languishing there, she fell in love with another man who genuinely wanted to free her from her miserable life there, as well as another prostitute, Kiyo. However, Tsuyu was betrayed to the yakuza that owned the brother and both she and her lover were murdered by them. Her remains were then thrown into a river, where the spirits of human bones merged with her own spirit and she became the youkai Hone-Onna.

Hone-Onna became the second of Ai Emma's assistants, along with Wanyūdō and Ren Ichimoku, and is the red straw doll. She has the ability to expose parts of her skeleton, mainly to terrify those Ai is about to send to Hell. She is also skilled in bladed weaponry, and like Ren also can disguise herself in the mortal world. However, she dislikes being called 'old woman'.
