Character Profile: Akatsuki Nagare

Akatsuki enters the Nadesico's picture in a somewhat unusual way. He appears as an Aestivalis pilot aboard the supply ship Cosmos (built to supply and support the Nadesico) and comes aboard to supplement the Aestivalis crew. For some reason, he constantly gets under Akito's skin. It's probably his stark realism. He's actually a good Aestivalis pilot and augments the team well...until the truth about him is revealed.

He attempts to wrest control of the Nadesico by asserting his authority as Chairman of Nergal, but the crew mutinies and eventually wrestles control back, and he finds himself stuck with the thankless task of helping them out.

He is a constant shift of alliance and perspective: a window into the sheer complexity a real war brings. His continuous putting down of Akito, for example, is fueled somewhat by jealousy: for Akito is able to do something he can't, which frustrates him.
