Character Profile: Ms. Howmei

Head cook for the Nadesico, Howmei hails from China and is not a stranger to being a ship's cook. However, because of an incident involving a last meal, she has devoted herself to making sure that every meal is as best as can be made (since it may well be that person's last in a ship of war). She is dedicated to her position and her profession, learning cooking techniques from around the world and keeping a huge collection of herbs and spices.

In addition to her watching over the other girls of the galley (who come to represent themselves collectively as the Howmei Girls), she actually plays a critical role in Akito's development, as both a cook and a man. She's full of sage-like advice and Akito is fascinated by her wisdom.
