Digital Magazine Review: Waifu Monthly Edition 2 (November 2024)
New issues of Waifu Monthly magazine are issued on the 24th of each month. For Edition 2 (November 2024) I was provided access to the premium version, and I have to say I've revisited that premium version way more times than I did the free version. Both versions have four profiles of attractive, fictional anime girls which I believe are created just for this magazine. The premium version, however, has at least four times as many pictures and are genuinely a lot more stimulating to look at.
The website alludes that the premium version contains nudity, while not outright saying that. They say "Complete, daring photo sets: see your favorite waifus being exceptionally daring" and "Discover a naughty side of our waifus that you won't see without Premium". So that certainly hints that you'll get to see these ladies in the buff, but we all know there are different levels of nudity. When I saw they used the word "ecchi" I figured they might be showing bare breasts and butts but no full frontal. If you've ever seen anime classified as ecchi that's pretty much what you get. But I was wrong, they absolutely do show full frontal and they're not shy about it. And it is beautiful!
Out of the four women featured, only Kaiya and Xyon appear to be fully human. The other two are adorned with animal characteristics. The one called Kira is a fox girl with fox ears and a fox tail, and Tora is a cat girl with cat ears and a cat tail. The short, one-page character bios don't provide any insight as to why they are part animal, and honestly, it's not needed. Though I will say that I would really love to see these characters in some type of comic that tells a story. Just a suggestion for future issues.
I wasn't overly impressed with the free edition of the magazine, not that it was bad or anything, it just didn't seem to offer a whole lot. The premium version I do see myself revisiting multiple times, and have done so already. I would still like it if they could include more content in future issues, things like artist bios, interviews, short stories, or anime/manga reviews. Something to make it feel more like a magazine and not simply a picture book of gorgeous artwork.
