Gambling in Anime Posted Nov 6, 2022
Anime has long been known for more than just fantastical fights. It has the ability to provide some of the most complex and layered stories in all of media. It’s this that helps it to stand out amongst other, more traditional western TV shows. With this it makes sense that day to day activities have started to be depicted in a lot of anime shows. If you’re a fan of online gambling then these top class anime shows will give you some great stories that incorporate frantic gambling action.
Kakegurui
This is exactly what you wouldn’t expect it to be. It doesn’t approach gambling in the sense of how real gambling takes place. Instead it ups the stakes, which makes it all the more exciting. In this show, the action all takes place in a private school. Here the students gamble with money, just as you’d expect, but there’s a twist.
Players who lose all of their money have to live up the remainder of the school year as a slave to the richer students. It means that the stakes are higher here than just gambling for money. With money and power being at the heart of everything that takes place in Kakegurui, it’s a fast paced ride that features a lot of battling and a lot of cheating. With a female protagonist it’s a change from the male dominated shows people are used to seeing, which just makes for another reason that this is a stand out show.
One Outs
One Outs is a little bit different to what people might expect. It’s not a straight gambling show. It mixes sports and gambling in a really unique way. It’s based around the greatest baseball pitcher that the world has ever seen. However, he’s not just that. He’s also the greatest gambler that the world has ever seen. These two aspects of his personality come together when he is offered a high risk and high reward bet. When it’s offered, he’s unable to ignore it and decides to jump into the bet with both feet.
The basic premise of the bet is that every time he’s able to get someone out with his pitches, he is awarded $45k. However, for every run that is scored against him, he has to pay $455k. As you can see, high risk but high reward. He backs his own skills as a pitcher, but there’s plenty going on here that makes this a hugely enjoyable anime.
Death Parade
This isn’t just a fantastic gambling anime, it’s one of the best anime shows of all time. It goes under the radar a little bit, but it’s an incredible show that will hook you in right away. Each episode starts with two characters being led into a room. Here they have to compete at a game, with the winner getting a reward. The twist is that winning the game isn’t always what gives out the reward. The behaviour of each character involved in the game is what decides the final outcome.
There are other twists and turns in place in this show that make it hugely engrossing. We don’t want to give too much away and ruin things, but rest assured that it won’t disappoint you. This game has some hugely interesting developments that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor
This is without a doubt a show that will blow your mind. It’s full of lots of blood and guts, which instantly makes it stand out. However, it’s a lot more than just a shocking show with buckets of gore. This is a show that’s one of the most intricate and exciting shows you will ever see.
The different characters in the show are landed in an area together. While they are there, they are given 3 stars to keep hold of. However, over the course of each day they can lose and gain stars by playing rock, paper, scissors. What makes this unique is that they only have a limited number of times that they can use each option. When one of the options runs out it can’t be used anymore. On top of this, if players lose all of their stars, end the night with less than 3 stars or have less than 3 stars when they run out of playing options, then they will be killed. Makes things just that little bit more interesting, but also dangerous.
This is a show that’s guaranteed to keep you hooked all of the way through.
Legendary Gambler Tetsuya
This is the oldest show on this list by quite a margin. However, it’s such a masterpiece of storytelling that it just has to be on the list. It might look a little bit dated but that’s no reason to avoid this absolutely incredible show. It’s set just after the end of the second world war and follows Tetsuya on a journey to try and eke out a living. Things aren’t easy after the war and Tetsuya decides to gamble his way out of trouble.
While he doesn’t always win, he finds that he has a natural talent for gambling. It’s not all glitz and glamour though, this is a gritty show that gives people a look into what things were really like in Japan after the war. If you want a show that’s a masterpiece of storytelling, then this is the one you should be looking at.
