The Digimon Franchise
Digimon launched in 1999 alongside the Digivice toy and grew into a sprawling TV franchise. Unlike most long-runners, the seasons are largely self-contained, each with a new cast of kids and their monster partners, so you can drop into almost any of them cold. The original Adventure arc remains the touchstone.
Where to start with Digimon
The seasons mostly stand alone, so there's no required order. Two good doors in:
Digital Monsters (Seasons 1-3)
The original 1999 Adventure and its two successors (02 and Tamers), bundled together. The franchise's roots and still its most-loved era.
Start here for the classic. Adventure follows eight kids pulled into the Digital World, and it's the season everything since is measured against.
Digimon Data Squad
A 2006 standalone season with an older cast and a more action-forward tone. No prior Digimon required.
A good jumping-on point if the late-90s animation of the original is a barrier. Most seasons stand alone like this, so almost any of them works as a first watch.
TV Series
Digimon's televised seasons, in order. Each is largely a standalone story with its own cast, loosely sharing the Digital World and the partner-monster premise. Seasons 1 through 3 (Adventure, 02, and Tamers) are bundled together here.
Films
The theatrical films and specials. Digimon: The Movie is the 2000 English compilation of the early shorts; X-Evolution is a standalone CG feature; Adventure tri. is a six-part sequel to the original Adventure.
