Takaya Ougi is an ordinary high-school student until he learns that he is the latest vessel of the warlord Kagetora, a soul reborn across four centuries to wage a hidden war.
Alongside fellow "possessors," Takaya must subdue the vengeful spirits of Sengoku-era warlords who refuse to rest and seek to rewrite history through the bodies of the living. At the story's heart is his fraught, charged bond with Naoe, a retainer whose devotion has followed Kagetora through many lifetimes. The TV series was followed in 2004 by the OVA Mirage of Blaze: Rebels of the River Edge.
