Review: Otaku Box for April 2024
I received April's Otaku Box a couple weeks and finally had a chance to check it out. I didn't recognize most of the characters featured in this month's box but thankfully there is an insert that's included which tells a little about everything that's in the box. Somehow I overlooked this in the previous box.
Once again the standout piece in the box is the 1:9 scale figurine. This time it was a Lamia Maid, a half-snake half-woman figure sexily dressed as a waitress holding a serving tray. It's a beautiful figure that stands about 7 inches tall and feels massive for a 1:9 scale figure, mainly due to her snake body. I recognized this character from an ecchi anime I watched a while back called Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou, AKA Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls. Her name is Miia, though neither the anime nor her name is mentioned on her figure box. I also don't remember her being a bar maid so maybe that's an artist interpretation? Of course it has been a while since I watched it so maybe that's a scene that I just don't remember. She is sporting a skimpy top that accentuates her large breasts, but unlike last month's figure this time the top isn't removable. The detail and painting on her is excellent and she instantly became one of my favorite figures.
The other, smaller figurine is one I didn't recognize at all. It's some blonde-haired guy wearing a white dress shirt and black tie while pulling a string out of his chest. The inventory sheet says his name is Denji and he's from an anime called Chainsaw Man. I had never heard of that one before. It's a cute little figure in the SD (super-deformed) style. Part of the string piece that goes into his chest broke off while I was trying to attach it but despite that it still attached.
The graphic t-shirt is black with a black, white, and green picture of an anime girl who has some rod or something covering her mouth. Again, I had no idea who this character was. The inventory sheet says her name is Neezuko from the Demon Slayer anime. It's a popular anime which I've heard good things about but I haven't had a chance to see yet. I think it would be confusing for me to wear this shirt when I have no idea who this character is and would not be able to answer who that is on my shirt or why is her mouth bound was apparently bound? People who have seen the anime would probably know but I would have no idea.
The included wall scroll is of sexy pink-haired lady with ample cleavage, a very short skirt, and legs for days. I still haven't gotten around to finding dowels oo some kind of frame to hang these so for now I'm just going to keep it folded up in the box. I think some company that sells hardware for mounting wall scrolls could benefit from having their business card included in the box. Also included in the box was a button that says "eat... sleep... Anime Repeat<<", a coin, a bag, a little piglet-like character with a chainsaw blade sticking out of its forehead and a handle for a tail (which I assume would belong with the Chainsaw Man figure), and two cards, one in color and one black-and-white. The black-and-white one is apparently an epoxy sticker. Not exactly sure what that means or how it's different from a regular sticker.
The color card is a character card for BB (Black Blossom), another character I've never heard of. The picture is quite sexy and the back gives some information about her but doesn't seem to tell what anime or manga she is from. Or is she just a character made up for Otaku Box? The bag is red with a sexy pic of a large-busted anime girl. We have a ton of bags and barely use any of them so not sure this will be getting much use. The coin has Neezuko's face on one size and anime text on the other. I'm not a collector or displayer of coins so not sure what to do with this. The inventory sheet says a bonus gift was included and shows a keychain with a birthday cake. That was not in my box, but maybe the chainsaw pig thing was the extra gift because that doesn't show up anywhere on the inventory sheet?
I liked last month's shirt better but the primary figure in this month's box was just amazing! and easily justifies the entire box. She is already one of my favorite figures in my collection and I have quite a few anime figurines. I think including character cards for the figures would be very helpful, or even something that tells a little about the anime these characters are from. Even a QR code that would bring up a video of someone telling about the characters and anime would be super helpful. Just a thought!
