I beat Ghosts 'n Goblins (NES)! I first played this at my friend Chris Bailey's house back in the 80s when it came out. It's another one of those Nintendo-hard classics that I had yet to beat. Although immensely frustrating at times, thanks to unlimited continues I was able to reign victorious within a week. And it turns out you have to play it through twice to get the good ending, with the first loop being just an illusion and the second loop having faster moving enemies. I did that, but the playthrough was pretty long so I challenged myself to do better. I briefly thought about trying for a no-continue run but the game is just too luck-based and I'd probably be playing it for months before I could accomplish that. So instead I chose to do it without using the knife, by far the best weapon in the game. It took a lot of practice but I finally got there.

I beat New Ghostbusters II (NES) again, this time doing a perfect playthrough taking no hits and getting all bonuses. It's not an exceptionally hard game but it was still extremely frustrating. With some of the bonuses you just have to get lucky so if you don't then you gotta just restart and try again. And there are no health meters in the game so one hit means death and having to restart from the very beginning. Was it worth spending every evening after work this past week and most of the weekend playing? Yes, yes it was.
