Mugetsu is a pipe fox that is quite attached to Watanuki. He was payment to Yuuko from the rain sprite Ame-warashi. Mugetsu normally looks like a furry snake with ears but when Watanuki is in trouble it turns into a more fox-like appearence.

In Mugetsu's real form he can use fireballs called "foxfire." He is also very strong in this state and often tries to jump on Watanuki like when he's small, often causing Watanuki to fall. It takes a lot of pure spiritual power to turn him back into his small form.

Mugetsu is always showing up normally coming out of Watanuki's pocket and gives him kisses and strangles him with love. Watanuki names him Mugetsu meaning no moon or moonless because his eyes are dark black like the night of the new moon.
