Character Profile: Harley Hartwell

Harley Hartwell is a character in the Japanese anime Meitantei Conan, or better known as Case Closed in the US. He was first introduced in The Diplomant Murder Case. He is the son of Martin Hartwell (Hezo Hattori) and Shizuka Hartwell (Shizuka Hattori, née Shizuka Ikenami). He is commonly known as the Detective of the West, whilst Jimmy Kudo (Shinichi Kudo) is known as the Detective of the East. He found out Jimmy's secret in Holmes Freak Murder Case. Harley and Jimmy were rivals once, but they soon became great friends, like Rachel (Ran) and Kazuha.

Harley has a childhood friend called Kazuha Toyama (Katie Thompson in the TCG), and is partly in love with her, though he never really does realize his feelings for her much. It is revealed, though, that Kazuha was actually Harley's first love in movie 7, Crossroad in the Ancient Capital.

His favorite sport is kendo. He knows how to ride a motorcycle, and as a matter of fact has one of his own. His Japanese name, Hattori, comes from ninja Hattori Hanzo, and Heiji comes from another detective, Zenigata Heiji.
