Character Description: Alucard
Alucard is one of the original vampires, unlike the new breed that has sprung up in England. Alucard's occupation is rather different in that he hunts his own kind. He justifies killing vampires because these vampires he's hunting down are not vampires but just some cheap imitations created by science. He views these beings even lower then humans. He fights for the Hellsing Organization and serves his master, Sir Integral Wingates Hellsing.
Alucard is virtually indestructible. He can get shot to pieces only to regenerate, be stabbed by hundreds of blessed blades, and get shot in the head by silver bullets and still live. He even got his head chopped off in episode 8 and still lived! Alucard is one vampire not to mess with.
Yes, the name "Alucard" is actually "Dracula" spelled backwards, but we don't really know who Alucard is. The series does shed some light on who Alucard might be, and most people believe he is Vlad the Impaler (also known as Dracula) who was notorious for impaling his victims on poles. However, there is a possibility that this might not be the case....
In the game series "Castlevania", Dracula was supposed to have had a son through a human women. This son hated his father so much because he loved his mother, whom got killed by Dracula. The son was the opposite of his vampire father, despite being a vampire himself, and hence called himself Alucard.
So, there is a possibility that Alucard might not be Dracula here in Hellsing. Plus, wasn't Dracula was much older when he became a vampire than Alucard appears to be? And since Helena said that you remain at the age you became a vampire, he can't hide his age. So, for this next paragraph, lets consider Alucard to be Dracula's son....
Alucard also shares similar traits with his father, such as his white hair and vampire-traits. Also, in both "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" and "Hellsing", Alucard shows signs of having a "dark" power (not evil, just dark) as well as the ability to change their hair color to black (though several times in Hellsing, it changes to white, like Integra's flashback on meeting Alucard and the last episode against Incognito/Sett) on the final fight against Incognito/Sett, Incognito sees an older version of Alucard after Alucard kills him. This older self has a mustache. "Coincidentally", Dracula looks a lot like Alucard, but of course looks older and often appears with a mustache. So Incognito might not be seeing Alucard as Dracula, but more like he sees Dracula's power in Alucard.
So there you have it. Definitely not hard proof, but then it wasn't meant to be. It was just meant to provide an alternative theory to the popular belief that Alucard is Dracula. Of course, in the manga there is a lot more evidence to suggest Alucard is Dracula.
Then there is also another theory that Alucard is actually a product of 20th century genetics labs. Using the DNA of Dracula, he could have been cloned by the Hellsing Organization, which would explain why he only obeys the lord and master of the Hellsing family.
Alucard is kept in control by Hellsing Organization through special seals. Integra is the only one who can give him permission to use his powers (to a limited extent) by opening these seals. The battle with Incognito is an example of Alucard with all seals released. though he still seems to be holding back.
Editor’s Note:
For all you inattentive people out there, this profile is for Alucard of the Hellsing TV Series, NOT the Alucard of the Hellsing Ultimate OVA Series. The OVA series is the one that follows closely to the manga, the TV series does NOT. This is an important distinction because a lot of people keep e-mailing me "proof" that Alucard is Dracula, where their proof comes from either the manga or the OVA series. Yes, in the OVA and manga there is little question that Alucard is Dracula, but in the TV series this is never proven, just hinted at, and thus leaves open the possibility for alternative theories.
Character Description: Alucard
Alucard is a rogue vampire, working for Integra Hellsing. He preys upon other vampires, primary just for seeking a worthy opponent to fight. He despises the freak vampires that have started to appear, claiming that such low-level vampires aren't worthy of his attention.
Alucard is a strong vampire who doesn't like weak vampires. He shows this very quickly in the first episode when he makes fun of the priest vampire for making ghouls. He does not like weak people, however he does respect strong people. Despite him being far superior to Integra, he is still very loyal to her (exactly how he is kept by the Hellsing family is never mentioned). Walter was once known as the Angel of Death.
Alucard fights with a large gun called Joshua, a modified 454 Casull calibre handgun, made from melting Lancaster Cathedral's silver cross, used with blessed, exploding bullets. Later on, Walter brings him a new toy, the 13mm Jackal. Using specialized silver ammo with blessed gunpowder and quicksilver, the already insane killing machine gets even more powerful.

Character Description: Alucard
Alucard is a vampire (guessed to be Dracula himself, but why get into semantics now) who is under the servitude to his human master, Sir Integral Wingates Hellsing (note: she is a woman), who he has served for at least ten years or more. Not much is known about Alucard's past, but in some episodes it implies that he had worked for Hellsing dating back before World War II, where he and Walter Dollneaz (retainer of the Hellsing family) had served together against Nazi Germany.
During his time working under Hellsing, he gains an apprentice named Seras Victoria, saving her from death during one of his missions to kill a vampire. She struggles with her humanity even after she becomes part of the undead.
Alucard in the show has been portrayed as a regular true vampire, but on numerous occasions he implies that he is more that what he seems to be. The producers show a split screen of Alucard now and a past picture of Alucard which bears a remarkable resemblance to the picture of Vlad Tepes (aka Vlad the Impaler, aka the real man that's Dracula was based on), insinuating that he is Dracula the no-life king.
