Character Description: Morté
Never existing in the videogames, Morté makes her the debut in .hack//Legend of the Twilight (.hack//Dusk in Japan) anime. Like Morganna, she plays the omnipotent villain AI throughout the end-half of the story, though she's only shown near the end.
This time around, Morté is the driving force behind a team of four kid hackers, who create modified monsters and later kidnap Rena. She's now obsessed with death, and intends on "killing" everyone in The World along with her so she can finally experience it. (This, of course, would result in the immediate hospitalization of EVERY player in The World.)
Ironically, "Morté" means "death" in Latin, and so is the main focus of her role: to die in The World.
She greatly despises Aura, and attempts to 'kill' her and Rena in an unknown area, while enlisting the aid of the four hackers. She is eventually defeated by Shugo and company.
When she starts to destabilize The World, this provides her with the chance to finally achieve death... however, it is unclear if it really worked-out that way for her in the end.
