Maya is a Phantom Cat, but unlike most other Phantom Cats, doesn't like to destroy property or hurt people. She is very kind, and quiet.

When Yoichi Taba was very young, he took care of a stray kitten. That stray kitten was Maya. Because of that incident, Maya thinks that most humans are like Yoichi, kind, thoughtful, caring.

But, many years later when Yoichi Taba joins Kagura Security, Socks recruits Maya to work for Black Cat, the leader of one of the two factions of Phantom Cats. Black Cat actually sends Maya to follow around Yoichi Taba, and spy on Kagura Security.

But Maya recognizes Yoichi as the one who took care of her many years ago, and ends up not following through with her orders of spying on Kagura Security. Yoichi can't decide if Maya is the same cat that he took care of many years ago.

Maya is a very quiet, shy girl. She doesn't want to hurt anyone, and has come to think of everyone at Kagura Security as family. Maya is willing to protect Yoichi Taba with her life if she has to. She can be found wherever Yoichi is. If he is at work, Maya is there with him. If he is at home, Maya is at home with him.

But, because she has sided with Kagura Security, the Phantom Cats are after her as well.
