Character Description: Gourry Gabriev

Gourry Gabriev isn't too bright (understatement), but he may be the best swordsman in the entire series, and is hardpressed to find a match. He is pretty much obsessed with finding a damesel in distress, which is the only reason he "saved" Lina from the bandits. He unknowingly annoys Lina when he calls her a little girl (she is rather undeveloped).

Gourry Gabriev (The Slayers) He does possess something of great value, though, (and it isn't his brain). He is the keeper of the Sword of Light, a magical sword that can be thought of as a lightsaber in the shape of a broadsword. He takes great care of it and watches it closely, because Lina often tries to steal the sword from him. She tries to trick him into giving it to her, but he's not that thick. He is pretty dang close, though. He is introduced in episode 1.

Goury's Race

Some people think that Gourry is 3/4 human and 1/4 elf because it is assumed that Gourry's ancestor, Rowdy Gabriev marries Merryloon, an elf girl. However, I'm told that in an interview, Hajime Kanzaka, the creator of Slayers, mentioned that Rowdy was an adult while Merryloon was just a child, so Rowdy actually marries a human woman.
