Character Profile: Koto

Koto is the Dark Tournament referee for the first part of the tournament. For the latter part of the tournament, she is replaced as referee and becomes an announcer in her very own booth. Assumably this was done because she disagreed with the double fault decision in the previous round between Yusuke Urameshi and Jin Kaze Tsukai the Windmaster. The Tournament committee said she counted too slow, and she said that she was supposed to, so they replaced her. She also defended Kurama during his fight with Bakken, which may or may not have played a part.

She is almost always really cheerful, and apparently loves seeing torture and pain. Koto also comes back later and is announcer for the Makai Tournament.

Koto's Race

Is Koto a fox demon or a cat demon? In one episode, Koto referred to her ears as "cat ears", leading us to believe that she is a cat demon. However, she appears to have a fox tail, not a cat tail, so this could simply be a mistake made while dubbing the show into English. But then again, I was told that in the manga she is addressed as a cat demon and constantly says "meow"... so who knows. Maybe she's part-fox and part-cat.
