Character Description: Sartorius

Saiou is the main villain of Season 2 in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. He is the head of the Society of Light. The Society of Light believes that mankind is consumed in darkness, and plans to destroy the world to end the Age of Darkness and begin the Age of Light. To do this, they plot to use the laser satellite SORA.

Saiou himself has a wide variety of mystical powers, very similar to those of the Millennium Items (although it does not seem likely he has one). These powers include the ability to immobilize people, brainwash them, seal their ability to see and hear Duel Spirits, and see the future with his deck of Tarot cards. He can also enchant objects with his powers, and work his will through them.

Saiou wishes to take over Duel Academy, so he duels Chazz Princton. Although Chazz can win, Saiou manipulates him, and convinces Chazz that he can only find happiness by joining the Society of Light. Chazz concedes the duel. Saiou repeats this pattern with all other members of Obelisk Blue and Ra Yellow (although he has Chazz duel some of them, he still convinces them to lose on purpose). Even Alexis Rhodes and Bastion Misawa "see the light", and join Saiou. The few members that do not include Syrus Truesdale, Tyranno Kenzan, and some sparse other Obelisk Blue students (most of which are merely one-episode duelists from Season 1).

Saiou is revealed to have two personalities, one good, one evil. His good side gives the 2 keys to SORA to Jaden Yuki and Aster Phoenix, in the hopes they can thwart his dark half. Saiou's evil side then recruits several duelist assassins to take the keys back.

Saiou has determined from his Tarot readings that Aster Phoenix is one of the few people who would be able to interfere with his fate. He has also determined that Jaden is another who can do so. Saiou's cards have said that there is a third person with the power to change Saiou's fate, but he has not discovered who this third person is (it is, in fact, Tyranno Hassleberry).

Saiou plays a Tarot deck. His cards all have the power to flip a coin when they are summoned: heads gives them powerful effects (such as immunity to being destroyed in battle,), while tails puts them at a serious disadvantage (in the above case, instead of being immune to battle, the monster is destroyed the second it is attacked). Saiou's cards, to show the result of the flip, have the unique ability to appear right-side up and right-side down, in addition to being face-up or face-down like normal cards.

Sartorius (Yu-Gi-Oh! GX) Sartorius' sister, Sarena, reveals him to have two personalities. His good half was overcome by evil after a wave of energy called the Light of Ruin infected him through contact with the card "Bloo-D" that Aster's father once owned.

The Evil Sartorius' plans to destroy the world and remake it in the image of light come to fruition with Aster duels him himself with the keys to SORA on the line. Sartorius' good side attempts to help Aster by stopping his Arcana Force cards by force, but the Evil Sartorius overrides this and stops the cards himself. Aster is defeated by Arcane Force EX - The Light Ruler, the 23rd Arcana Force and the leader of the series. Aster's hair turns white as he is consumed with the Light of Ruin, and Sartorius claims the keys to SORA.

With Aster gone and his good half subdued, Sartorius' evil side grows, his face turns monstrous, and the Light of Ruin reveals its true form. Jaden and Sartorius duel while one of the members of the Society of Light races to activate SORA. Tyranno Hassleberry, Jaden's Neo-Spacians, and the digitized spirit of Sartorius' sister combine forces to stop SORA. While the details of his victory are yet unknown, Jaden defeats the Light of Ruin and restores Sartorius to his normal self.
