Anime Profile: Fushigi Yûgi - The Mysterious Play

Fifteen year old Yuuki Miaka with her friend Hongo Yui finds an old Chinese novel in a hidden section of the library. The girls are sucked into the book, "Shijin Tenchishou" (The Universe of the Four Gods), and find themselves in a world much like ancient China. Soon, Yui returns to the real world, and begins to read the book. What she is reading is what happens to Miaka Yúki!

Miaka Yúki finds her way to the palace of Konan, and the Emperor, Hotohori, asks her to become the Priestess of Suzaku [Suzaku no Miko]. Miaka Yúki agrees, and her quest is to find the Seven Seishi of Suzaku. If she succeeds, not only will she save the land, a wish will be granted to her. Incidentally, this same wish will be bestowed to whoever can read the book through to its entirity, but from the moment one starts reading, like Miaka Yúki, that person becomes a part of the story.

Eventually Yui is also sucked in, and Miaka Yúki's brother Keisuke reads the story. Yui becomes the Seiryuu no Miko at the request of Kutou's emperor and one of the Seiryuu Seishi, Nakago. Miaka Yúki falls in love with Suzaku Seishi Tamahome, but their relationship is constantly interrupted throughout the series. Yui also loves Tamahome, which creates some confusion...

Fushigi Yuugi is about a girl named Miaka. One day when Miaka went to a library with her friend Yui they both found a book called Universe Of The Four Gods. What they didn't know was that the book had magic. When they start reading they got sucked inside the book.

As they arrived in this new place, they were about to get attacked by these strange people, but were saved by this guy named Tamahome. Yui followed him to repay him but somehow she got sucked back into her own world with Miaka stuck inside the book. Throughout the book days go faster but in the human world time goes slower. Miaka starts wandering around. She sees men like four of them... and they were gonna rape her but Tamahome comes to save her. She wanted to repay him so when she saw the king she tried to steal some things to repay Tamahome. But she got locked in jail with Tamahome.

She got hungry and started eating gum but when the guards saw her they thought she was a monster. She escaped with Tamahome but then she smelled food she just couldn't help herself. Then she saw the king but she thought he was a woman because of the long hair. Tamahome found her and he said that was the king. Then she started touching the king's chest and she found out he was a guy. He said his name was Hotohori.

Hotohori wanted Miaka to be Priestess of Suzaku and she said yes. Her job was to find the seven warriors. She had actually found two all ready Tamahome and Hotohori. The warriors had a tattoo somewhere on their body. Later in the book she has to become enemies with her friend Yui because she becomes Priestess of Seiryuu and they don't want to be enemies but they fight over the same guy, Tamahome. What other things will Miaka go though lose her love or lose her friend?
